How We Feed Our Flock

What goes into our chickens matters to us.

Our flock is primarily fed Kalmbach Feeds, including Organic Henhouse Reserve®, Layer Crumbles, Organic Love Bug™, and Chickhouse Reserve® depending on the bird’s age and needs.

We specifically appreciate the YolkProud™ ingredients included in these feeds and choose formulas appropriate for each stage of our flock.

But their diet doesn’t end at the feeder.

Our chickens live like chickens.

They spend their days scratching, pecking, dust bathing, searching for insects, and investigating whatever happens to be growing nearby.

They regularly receive treats from our garden, including fresh leaves, vegetables, fruits, herbs, and the bugs they enthusiastically find for themselves.

We also offer treats such as fruits and nuts in moderation.

Many of the herbs grown around Willow & Branch find their way to the flock as well. Depending on what’s growing, they may get fresh or dried herbs tucked into their spaces, mixed into treats, or simply available to peck at around the garden.

It’s a simple philosophy:

Good feed. Fresh air. Sunshine. Room to scratch. Plenty of plants and bugs. And chickens allowed to behave like chickens.
